What are rubber expansion joints?

Rubber expansion joint is a flexible joint made of special rubber with flanges or couplings on both sides. It can have one or more compensating waves. They are also called vibration joints, anti-vibration, rubber expansion joints.

The main function is to compensate for changes that occur during the operation of the pipeline .

Compensators are installed between two anchor points (movable and fixed). No special installation equipment is required. The expansion in this area should be less than the maximum compensating ability of the joint.
Vibration joint effectively compensates for transverse, longitudinal movements, thermal elongations, shifting, angular and axial movements. It takes over the pressures, absorbs them, thereby reducing the level of vibration and noise, protects the system from water hammer, and maintains tightness.

Operating conditions:

Operating Temperature -10 ° С ... + 110 ° С;
Operating Pressure 1 MPa, 1.6 MPa;
Nominal diameter 25 ... 1000 mm;
Flowing Medium: hot, cold water, air, non-aggressive liquid medium.

Rubber joints advantages: lightweight and compact mounting size. They are easy to install in less space with many supply lines, in hard-to-reach places (industrial spaces, basements of residential buildings, pumping stations); easy to install, maintain, no hot work required during dismantling.
Vibration joints protect sensitive points and components from pressure produced by an operating pipeline, align misalignment due to inaccurate installation work. In the latter, the compensating ability and operation life of the flexible joint is slightly reduced.
Rubber-cord compensators are not able, like fabric, to compensate for twisting, simultaneous shifting and stretching.
